DHS Republicans seek cuts to Homeland Security funding, primarily in grants

WASHINGTON — A House appropriations panel marked up the Republican proposal for homeland security spending in fiscal 2012 Friday, following calls from top Republicans to protect national security in a fiscally sensible manner.

The fiscal 2012 homeland security appropriations bill would provide $40.6 billion to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), down $1.1 billion (or 2.6 percent) from fiscal 2011 and $3 billion less than requested by the White House.

Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, emphasized that the fiscal 2012 homeland security appropriations bill would protect Americans while also tackling "uncontrolled deficits and debt."
