Pa. fire companies launch video recruitment program

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Five individual fire companies in Cheltenham Township, Pa., are aiming to motivate their communities to join the fire service with a new video series.

The documentary-style program, launched on May 2 via YouTube, is funded by a regional 2008 SAFER grant for volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention initiatives.

In addition to being posted online, three of the videos are running as commercials on local cable television, and other videos will be shown at community events.

The companies also created a new department-wide recruitment website which viewers are directed to in the videos, and a Facebook page.
