JACKSON, Mich. — The Jackson Fire Department will likely hire nine additional firefighters with money provided by a federal grant.

The department recently learned it will received $1,875,156 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, SAFER, grant. Deputy Fire Chief David Wooden expected to receive further details about the grant Friday.

"That would get us back in the right direction," Wooden said Wednesday of the additional nine firefighters. "It would get us more appropriately staffed for where we need to be."
