CLIFTON, N.J. — The Clifton Fire Department has received $1.4 million in federal grants that will be used to hire eight firefighters and buy arson investigation equipment.
The grants include a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, or SAFER, grant for $1.35 million and a $22,664 Fire Prevention and Safety grant.
"The current economic crisis has put an extreme burden on the brave men and women in our local firehouses, so I am pleased eight new firefighters will be joining Clifton's force at a time when we need them most," said Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-Paterson, who announced the grant Thursday.
