WASHINGTON — The New Haven Volunteer Fire Department in Oswego County will receive a federal grant of $101,757 to help buy new air packs for its firefighters, New York's two U.S. senators said today.

The competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will help the New Haven department buy the new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for its firefighters, replacing outdated equipment.

"With this funding, New Haven's first responders can focus on their important work knowing they have new, reliable SCBAs," Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a statement. "This investment will help ensure that our local heroes can continue their life-saving work as effectively and safely as possible."
