15 Mich. firefighter jobs preserved after $2.3M grant

The SAFER grant will save all firefighter positions on the chopping block

SAGINAW, Mich. — The Saginaw Fire Department has received a $2.3 million federal grant that will prevent 15 firefighters from being laid off on July 1.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., and Carl Levin, D-Mich., announced on Wednesday, June 19, that the city is receiving a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant.

"Across Michigan, our firefighters provide courageous service to communities like Saginaw," Stabenow said. "This grant will help the Saginaw Fire Department keep firefighters on the job to better protect the public."
