The grants are some of $72,975 that Illinois American Water is providing to 75 departments in its service area through a program it created in 2010

ALTON, Ill. — Seven fire departments and fire protection districts in The Telegraph area are getting funds from Illinois American Water’s 2013 Firefighter Grant Program, commemorating national Fire Prevention Week.

The Alton Fire Department will use its $1,000 for driver instruction materials, Chief Bernie Sebold said.

“We are very happy to receive it. We will purchase some more training materials, books and DVDs for our apparatus operators,” Sebold said. “It will be used for driver-operators training. Not only is it required to train for the Alton Fire Department, it also is graded under ISO (Insurance Services Office) for fire districts” that partially determines property insurance rates.
