CARLIN, Nevada — Thanks to generous donations from Barrick Gold Corp., Newmont Mining Corp., Eureka County, General Moly — and an anonymous family in Eureka County — the Carlin Volunteer Fire Department was able to purchase a new fire engine.

The truck, a 1999 Pierce Saber, is now the department’s primary engine, and will be used to respond to fires in and outside city limits, such as Barrick and Newmont sites.

The new engine is an upgrade over the department’s older 1967 Ford F800 Darley Engine, in that it can staff up to six firefighters compared with three of the old engine. It carries an additional hose, has better pumping capabilities, a better lighting system and a back-up camera, which will increase safety.
