$200K grant awarded to NY fire department for new equipment

The grant money will help replace outdated equipment with the purchase of 38 new breathing apparatuses

CARMEL, N.Y. — The Carmel Fire Department will receive a $203,965 investment for new life-saving equipment through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

The grant money  will help replace outdated equipment with the purchase of 38 new breathing apparatuses, a device worn by first responders to provide breathable air in life-threatening conditions. The Carmel Fire Department relies on 50 volunteer members and has served the Carmel community for 99 years.

“Our volunteer firefighters risk their lives to protect our neighbors — this investment for the Carmel Fire Department gives our all-volunteer force the support they need to continue keeping our homes, businesses and schools safe,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), who, along with state Senator Greg Ball,  helped procure the grant..
