HOUMA, La. — Houma Fire Department officials used grant money to purchase an inflatable fire safety house to train area children how to react to a house fire.

The $30,000 federal fire prevention grant also paid for fire prevention and alarm devices the department will distribute to area low-income homeowners, senior citizens and residents with disabilities.

Fire crews will bring the safety house to local schools and community events throughout the year to familiarize children with fire safety practices.
