NJ EMS chief wins excellence award

The award consists of $10,000 that the EMS agency will use for equipment and training

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, N.J. — It takes guts to call 911.

Jerry Pandolfo, chief of Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety, often reminds people it's not easy for someone who is sick and injured to call for help. That's why he's still on call after 25 years.

"It's very gratifying," said Pandolfo, 54. "You're helping people in their time of need. These people are typically your neighbors, people who live in your town. You're just trying to make the worst possible time in their life better."
