Syracuse University's CASE Center has been awarded a $305,500 state grant to help develop a system to help firefighters, police and emergency medical technicians deal with emergencies.

The money, from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research, is intended to provide first responders operating in dangerous situations with precise location positioning, monitoring of vital signs and backup communications, officials said Wednesday.
