Nearly 600 volunteer fire departments receive $9.5M in N.C. grants

The grants assisting volunteer fire departments with the purchase of equipment and capital expenditures

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Five fire departments in Davidson County recently received grants from the N.C. Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Wayne Goodwin has announced the recipients of the 2015 Volunteer Fire Department Fund grants. This year, more than $9.5 million went to 574 volunteer fire departments across the state, according to a OSFM news release.

Fire departments receiving the grant in Davidson County are Denton, Holly Grove, South Lexington, Gumtree and South Davidson. The five Davidson County fire departments are required to match the grant on a dollar-to-dollar basis. The grants are aimed at assisting the fire departments with the purchase of equipment and capital expenditures.
