Utah scholarship helps kin of firefighters
By Linda Thomson
The Deseret Morning News
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah firefighters and their immediate relatives are eligible for $1,000 scholarships from a fund that once was available only to families of fallen firefighters. The fund totals $20,000.
The money was donated by Utah businessman Zane Gray, who owns Elite Fire Systems.
"My first hope is that every firefighter comes home the night of a fire," Gray said. "My second hope is that firefighters know how much we appreciate their daily sacrifice."
More information can be found at www.UtahFallenHeroes.com, including application forms.
The deadline for applications is July 1; the scholarships will be awarded July 11.
