SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Fire Department has received a $5,000 grant to purchase fire and carbon monoxide detectors for distribution to low-income families, the elderly and the disabled.

Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America announced the awarding of a Heritage Rewards grant Thursday on behalf of the Burgess Group.

"It is crucial that vulnerable and low-income populations have the tools in their homes to protect their families," said Salt Lake City Fire Chief Kurt Cook.

The grant will be presented on Dec. 16.
