Grants to fund firefighter fitness, equipment, trucks in Pa.
By Ben Wolfgang
The Republican Herald
Federal grants announced earlier this week will help keep Pottsville's firefighters in tiptop shape for the job.
"For our department, this is new. We're going to get physicals for all of our firefighters," Pottsville fire Chief Todd March said Friday afternoon. "All seven companies (in Pottsville) are going to benefit from this. It's a tough job."
The $277,020 grant is part of the federal government's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The Pottsville Fire Department grant is part of a $1.2 million grant package delivered to Schuylkill County fire companies earlier this week by U.S. Rep. Tim Holden, D-17.
