Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade Grant availableNational Volunteer Fire Council Georgia-Pacific is currently accepting applications for the 2011 Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade™ Grant program. Fire departments in communities that have a Georgia-Pacific facility or where company employees live can apply for a grant to fund needed gear and equipment. Grant applications must be submitted to your local Georgia-Pacific facility. Apply now, as all applications must be provided by the local facilities to the national headquarters by August 12. The Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade is a national program that recognizes firefighters in Georgia-Pacific communities for their contributions in making their communities, homes, and workplaces safer. Grants have been used to fund a variety of necessities, including turn-out gear, extrication equipment, vehicle repairs, pumps, hoses and nozzles, and certification programs. In addition to the grants, the program also provides free fire safety educational materials to eligible fire departments upon request. Since 2006, the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade program has contributed more than $650,000 to rural and small-town fire departments across the U.S. In 2010, Georgia-Pacific awarded a total of $175,000 in grants to 25 departments. In addition, Georgia-Pacific provided all applicants with a complimentary year-long department membership in the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).
