Description: Overview:
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) is accepting applications for the 2011 Urban & Community Forestry Grant program through February 21, 2012. The LDAF’s Office of Forestry primary responsibilities are to suppress timberland wildfires; promote sound forest management practices; disseminate information; facilitate educational programs; produce reforestation seedlings; enforce timber-related laws; investigate timber theft; and assist community urban forestry programs.
$24,000 of federal additional matching funds has been made available for the 2011 program year and will be distributed through a competitive grants allocation process. The LDAF will award three (3) grants for $8,000 each. Tree City USA recipients and first- time applicants shall be awarded bonus points in the scoring process.
Purpose:
The program is geared toward establishing new and strengthening existing community forestry programs in Louisiana.
Eligibility:
The grant program provides competitive federal matching grants to non-profit groups and state and local governments to assist in start-up or improvement of local urban forestry programs.
Funding Areas:
The cost-share grant is for programs, projects, or activities not currently being funded and not intended to substitute for existing funding levels.
