Overview:

Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Grants support activities in two categories:

  1. Fire Prevention and Safety Activities: Projects designed to reach high-risk target groups and mitigate the incidence of death and injuries caused by fire and fire-related hazards.
  2. Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activities: Projects aimed at improving firefighter safety, health, and wellness through research and development projects that reduce firefighter fatalities and injuries.

Examples of Eligible Projects and Funding Areas:

Fire Prevention and Safety Activities:

  • Smoke Alarms,
  • Sprinkler Awareness,
  • Public Education campaigns,
  • Code Enforcement/Awareness,
  • Firefighter Safety,
  • Training,
  • Wildfire Prevention /Awareness,
  • Arson Prevention/Awareness,
  • Risk Assessments,
  • and General Prevention/Awareness

Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activities:

  • Behavioral, Clinical, and Social Science studies,
  • Database/Data Collection and analysis projects/systems,
  • Technology and Product Development Studies,
  • and research regarding dissemination and implementation of effective programs and projects and preliminary studies

Eligibility:

Fire Prevention and Safety Activities:

  • Fire departments
  • National, regional, state, local, Native American tribal organizations
  • Non-profit organizations with experience in fire prevention and safety programs
  • Private and public non-profit organizations

Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activities

  • National, regional, state, local, Native American tribal organizations
  • Non-profit organizations recognized for experience in fire prevention and safety programs

Award Details:

Applications and awards are limited to a maximum federal share of $1.5 million.

The grantee cost sharing is 5% for all eligible projects.
