Description: Overview:
FP&S offers grants to support activities in two categories:
- activities designed to reach high-risk target groups and mitigate incidences of death and injuries caused by fire and fire-related hazards (“Fire Prevention and Safety Activity”); and
- research and development activities aimed at improving firefighter safety (“Firefighter Safety Research and Development Activity”).
Examples of Eligible Projects
• Public safety education
• Code enforcement/awareness
• Arson prevention/awareness
• Juvenile fire-setter programs
• Sprinkler awareness
• Smoke alarm distribution
• Burn prevention
• Firefighter safety R&D
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants for this activity include fire departments, and national, regional, state, local, Native American tribal organizations and/or community organizations that are recognized for their experience and expertise in fire prevention and safety programs and activities. Both private and public non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for funding in this activity. For-profit organizations are not eligible to receive a FP&S grant award.
FP&S Match:
For fire departments, the match is based on population:
– less than 20,000 = 5%
– between 20,000 and 50,000 = 10%
– over 50,000 = 20%
For other applicants, there is no cost share.
