An estimated 1,750 fire departments are eligible for a State of Texas Emergency Grant, including:
 Volunteer Fire Departments
 Combination Fire Departments (part-volunteer, part-paid) with 20 or fewer paid members

Grant funding is to assist VFDs with their higher than normal expenses and may be used to  reimburse departments for:

 Repairs to Essential Equipment
 Operating Expenses (such as fuel, tires, hose, supplies and materials)

Immediate Grant Assistance
 Eligible departments will receive immediate grant assistance of $1,000 upon return of the
attached application, W-9 form and receipts totaling $1,000 in eligible purchases.

Additional Grant Assistance
 The award distribution process for the remaining funds requires all applications be screened and funding prioritized to fire departments hardest hit by wildfires this year.
 Departments may apply by submitting the attached application (by mail or fax) to the Texas Forest Service grant staff in Lufkin by November 16, 2011.
 Requests for additional grant assistance may be submitted on the same application as the immediate grant assistance. [Note: Receipts for additional grant assistance are not to be submitted with application.]
 Eligible applicants with the greatest needs may receive additional funds (not to exceed a maximum award of $9,000).
 Award notification letters will be issued by December 16, 2011.
 Departments that receive award notices for additional grant assistance will need to submit receipts for purchases (up to the award amount) by March 31, 2012.
