Wyoming Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program

Grant Details:
Application Due Date: August 2012 est

Description:

Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant Applications are now being accepted through March 19, 2010. The grant is made available through the Federal Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act. Funding for VFA Grant comes from the USDA Forest Service, which awards the grant to the Wyoming State Forestry Division (WSFD).

WSFD administers the program and approves the grants to local fire departments. "Money is used to organize, train and equip fire departments for the purposes of preventing and suppressing structural and wildland fires in rural areas” said Ron Graham, Assistant Fire Management Officer. “This is a great way for the Wyoming State Forestry Division to encourage volunteer fire departments to strive for improved services." Eligible applicants serve rural areas and communities with a population of 10,000 or fewer inhabitants. This includes 124 of the 132 fire departments in Wyoming. In 2008, the VFA Program funded 29 projects for a total of $180,380.00 throughout Wyoming.

Fire departments approved for funding must match at least 50 percent of the total project cost with local funding. Application forms are sent to all eligible fire departments. Applications must be completed and returned to the Wyoming State Forestry Division by Friday, March 19th, 2010.
