Overview:

The grants we make support local programs that work to improve health. We join with partners—public, nonprofit, and private—to leverage our collective knowledge, skills, and assets to significantly improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. This broader work includes health care advocacy, diversity, environmental stewardship, and the elimination of health disparities.

Our grants support charitable organizations that are:

Working at the national level to improve community health; active in at least two of Kaiser Permanente's regions; and able to demonstrate impact in our priority areas.

Grants:

At a time when communities and community organizations are significantly impacted by the economic downturn our goal is to maintain the level of overall support we provide, while meeting more of the immediate needs brought about by the changing economic environment.

In response to the growing needs and requests we are receiving, we are focusing our Northern California Regional Grants Program to place greater emphasis on the following priorities:

- Supporting organizations that provide critical health and human services to vulnerable populations, including the safety net of community clinics, public hospitals and health care systems.

- Helping people get access to health care and coverage.

Funding Priorities:

Our philanthropic activities are focused in the following areas. We are particularly interested in having applicants discuss how their work in these areas includes the social determinants of health and addresses the elimination of health disparities and inequities.

1.Community Health Initiatives.

2.Safety Net Partnerships.

3.Care and Coverage for Low-Income People.
