Overview:
The California Office of Traffic Safety is pleased to announce traffic safety grant opportunities for Federal Fiscal Year 2012. OTS distributes federal funding apportioned to California under the National Highway Safety Act and the Safe, Accountable and Flexible Efficiency Transportation Equity Act. Grants are used to mitigate traffic safety program deficiencies, expand on going activities, or develop a new program. Grant funding cannot replace existing program expenditures, nor can traffic safety funds be used for program maintenance, research, rehabilitation, or construction.

OTS grants address traffic safety priority areas:

- Alcohol and Other Drug

- Police Traffic Services

- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

- Traffic Records/ Roadway Safety

- Occupant Protection

- Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety

- Motorcycle Safety

Eligibility:

Political subdivisions of the state are eligible to apply for and receive OTS grant funding. In addition to state governmental agencies, state colleges, and state universities, subdivisions of the state include local city and county government agencies, school districts, fire departments, and public emergency services providers. Non-profit, community-based organizations (CBOs) are eligible to apply for funding through a political subdivision of the state.

How to Apply:

Applying for an OTS grant begins with submission of a proposal. The proposal is to be submitted as an attachment to a cover letter prepared on you agency letterhead. Proposals must be mailed and postmarked by 2012 deadline (TBA):
