Connecticut Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant Program

Overview:

The Volenteer Fire Assistance Program (VFA), formerly known as the Rural Community Fire Protection Program, can provide Federal financial technical, and other assistance to State Foresters and other appropriate officals to organize, train and equip fire departments in rural areas and rural communities to suppress fires. A rural community is defined as having 10,000 or less population.

Eligibility:

The Federal guidelines for VFA require eligible fire departments must be in a town with a population of less than 10,000 according to the 2000 census. The program will provide assistance for the prevention, control and suppression of fires, which threaten human life, livestock, wildfire, crops, pastures, orchards, woodlands, farmsteads and other improvements.

Matching:

Approve a cost-sharing rate of %50 not to exceed $2,500 per grant.

Priority:

Priority will be given to projects with at least %25 of funding is used for training.
