Colo. students build ambulance center with help from grant

WALSENBURG, Colo. — What was once an old propane service building just north of the railroad tracks that wind through this small town, is now a state-of-the-art ambulance center built by the hands of student construction workers.

Huerfano County purchased the Ludvik Propane building for $100,000 and hired The Career Building Academy for $190,000 to renovate it into an ambulance center. Rick Johnson, founder and president of the nonprofit school, created the academy to help former high school dropouts learn a trade.

The majority of the project was paid for by a Department of Local Affairs grant.
