RENO, Nev. — Thursday morning, the City of Reno announced they will be awarded a $13.7 million federal fire and emergency response grant.

The City of Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez said the grant will allow them to open and fully staff all 14 Reno fire stations starting July 1.

"We were looking at a potential of laying off approximately 80 firefighters," said Hernandez. "At this point now, that concern is gone. We have the funding and stability to move forward in rebuilding our department and it's a good day."
