Restaurant's foundation gives more than $40,000 to departments in the Carolinas

The Firehouse Sub Public Safety Foundation and its franchisees recently handed out donated equipment to four fire departments in N.C. and S.C. The value of the equipment comes to more than $40,000.

In S.C., franchise owner Omar Ghorbani partnered with the foundation to donate more than $25,000 to fire departments in Una, Woodruff and Hickory Tavern, GoUpstate.com reported.

The Una Community Fire Department received vehicle stabilization struts. The Woodruff Fire Department received a Polaris all-terrain vehicle, and the Hickory Tavern was given two pulse oximeters and plastic cribbing.

In November, Ghorbani gave the North Spartanburg Fire Department $10,000 for a Polaris all-terrain vehicle and $14,500 a year earlier to the Boling Springs Fire Department for a similar vehicle. He's also given more than $8,000 to equip the Croft Fire Department with four gas monitors and two AEDs, GoUpstate.com said.

The Ashville (N.C.) Fire Department received a $15,000 trailer that will be used by the regional technical rescue team. The trailer was donated in memory of Capt. Jeffery Bowen, who died in the line of duty last year.

Since 2005, the foundation has given more than $518,000 to S.C. public-safety agencies and $300,000 to N.C. public-safety agencies.
