Ga. fire department awarded $300K for response Boat

The grant will help support the department's maritime and all-hazard efforts

SAVANNAH, GA — Savannah Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) received a nearly $300,000 federal matching grant, officials announced Thursday, that supports the continued implementation of the department’s maritime and all-hazard preparedness efforts.

The Port Security Grant, through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be used to purchase marine firefighting and industrial firefighting equipment as well as provide marine firefighting and maritime operations training.

“This grant allows the department to continue to enhance it’s maritime and all hazards capabilities. It builds on last year’s Port Security Grant that enabled the department to purchase an all-hazards boat,” Dan Stowers, Savannah’s Emergency Manager, said.
