Iowa fire department gets $5.3M grant for emergency operations center

The building will house multiple agencies and replaces a structure damaged by heavy flooding in 2008

The Federal Information and News Dispatch

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the City of Cedar Rapids $5.3 million to construct a 50,000 square foot improved facility for the Emergency Operations Center. The Center will house the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and its support space, as well as the Administrative Office and Fire Bureau Division.

"The flooding in 2008 caused excessive damage to many city buildings in Cedar Rapids," said Harkin. "I am very pleased we are able to provide funding to the fire department and the Emergency Operations Center, which provide the city and its residents with absolutely critical services."
