Kan. county EMS gets grant for new blood monitor

CLAY COUNTY, Kan. — Clay County EMS has received a grant paying for almost 80 percent of a new blood monitor.

The total cost of the monitor is $38,868.73 with the state paying $31,094.98 and the county will pay $7,773.75.

The monitor/defibrillator paid for by this grant is capable of “new non-invasive” monitoring of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide levels in the blood. It’s also WiFi capable and capable of sending information to the hospital they’re headed to before they can get there. That can be critical in deciding whether or not to do a certain procedure, such as putting in a stint, Van Blaricon said.
