La. fire departments receive nearly $860K in FEMA grants

ST. MARY PARISH, La. — Ten fire departments and 911 communications district in St. Mary Parish were awarded $859,265 in the form of a parish-wide Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA on May 17, according to a news release from the St. Mary Parish 911 Communications District.

The Morgan City Fire Department, Berwick Volunteer Fire Department, Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department, Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin Fire Department, District 11 Fire Department, Cypremort Point Volunteer Fire Department, Baldwin Fire Department, and Chitimacha Fire Department, along with 911 Communications District will be the recipients of the grant.

The grant will provide new communication equipment including new pagers, mobile and portable radios for the fire departments and new radio consoles and 700 MHZ radios for 911, the release stated.
