ROYAL OAK, Mich. — The Royal Oak Fire Department continued its “lucky” streak when it comes to grants when it received a $150,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security on Aug. 14.

The department will receive $120,000 from the Assistance to Firefighters grant program, while the city is asked to contribute $30,000.

Fire chief Chuck Thomas said the money will be used to purchase five thermal imaging cameras and 20 self-contained breathing apparatuses. The current ones are at the end of their lifespan.
