Miss. fire departments share $1.4M in grants

The 16 departments will use the funds to buy new equipment and train their firefighters

JACKSON, Miss. — Sixteen Mississippi fire departments will share in $1.4 million to acquire new equipment and train their firefighters.

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., says in a news release the grants come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Fire Administration.

The grants are going to fire departments in the cities of Greenville, $268,864; Natchez, $147,191; Mathiston, $97,715; Laurel, $85,932; Brandon, $40,910; and Hattiesburg, $25,662.
