ROOTSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Rootstown Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation to purchase a new motorized power-lift cot for one of its ambulances.

The new cot will make it easier and safer to pick up, load and unload patients in and out of an ambulance during emergency calls. The new equipment also protects first responders from sustaining back and lifting injuries that are common on the job.

Fire Chief Charles Palmer said the power-lift cot costs about $45,296.
