GRANVILLE, Ohio — Granville Township will try a second time for a grant to hire three additional firefighters needed to comply with state and federal standards.

The township trustees Wednesday authorized Fire Chief Jeff Hussey to apply for a $324,000, four-year federal grant that would allow the department to boost full-time staffing to 10 from seven firefighter-paramedics.

The grant would pay 90 percent of their salaries the first year, with a declining percentage each of the next three years. The township would have to pick up the complete cost of the salaries in the fifth year.
