Pa. fire companies get $485K in federal grants

AFG funds will go toward new truck and turnout gear

MAHANOY CITY, Pa. — The borough’s firefighters will receive almost half a million dollars from the federal government.

In an announcement Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-17, said Good American Hose Company No. 3 will get a vehicle acquisition grant of $428,572 to buy a new pumper/tanker, while West End Fire and Rescue Company No. 5 will get an operations and safety grant of $57,143 for turnout gear.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awards the Assistance to Firefighters Grants, with the funds being distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
