Pa. fire department looking forward to extra training expected from federal grant money

The money will help pay for 3 firefighters to earn certification in fire investigation, allow the department to receive updated training in rescue efforts and will provide capital to buy cameras and other evidence-gathering equipment

Lehigh Valley Live

EASTON, Pa. — Faced with budget constraints and ever-rising costs, Easton Fire Chief John Bast says recent federal grants will ensure his force gets more training and better investigative equipment.

The department received about $58,000 in July and was awarded roughly $20,000 in August from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The money will help pay for three firefighters to earn certification in fire investigation, allow the entire department to receive updated training in rescue efforts and will provide capital to buy cameras and other evidence-gathering equipment, according to Bast.

“For me, if I did not receive the grant, we wouldn’t be able to do the training,” said the chief. “It's just as simple as that.”
