PEYTON, Colo. — The Falcon Fire Protection District this week will receive a donation of 47 pairs of wildland fire boots worth about $11,000.

Wildland boots are "a personal-type thing" because they form to firefighters' feet, so they aren't like most equipment that can be reissued, said Jeff Petersma, deputy chief of the Falcon Fire Protection District.

Previously, career firefighters would use their uniform allowance to buy the boots, and volunteers would have to buy the boots themselves.

There are 25 career firefighters in the Falcon district, Petersma said. The number of volunteers fluctuates.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donated the boots to the Falcon Fire Protection District as part of a program created in 2005 to provide "funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations," according to a release.
