Volunteer fire department receives $40K AFG grant

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Taunton Fire Department has received more than $40,000 in federal funding to replace equipment including its air-filling station for its breathing apparatus.

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Dan Maffei announced the grant Wednesday in a statement.

The $42,356 in federal funding was allocated via the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. With the grant money, Taunton will replace their air-filling station to help the department comply with federal regulations. "We are very pleased to receive this Assistance to Firefighters Grant so we can replace our twenty year old Self-contained Breathing Apparatus filling station," Taunton Fire Department Chief Kevin Spraker said in a statement.
