Volunteer fire department receives Homeland Security grant

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. — The Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association will receive a $488,200 grant from the Department of Homeland Security to be used to recruit and retain personnel and buy equipment, according to a joint news release from U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin.

The grant is from the department’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program, the release said.

Dale Hill, president of the fire and rescue association, said the grant money will be spread out over four years for the various programs.
