MCFARLAND, Wis. — Three grant applications for the McFarland Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Departments have recently been selected for award. The largest is an Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $257,000 awarded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

According to a press release from the Fire Department the grant funding will be used to replace the Fire Department’s outdated self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), also known as air packs, the breathing air compressor and the SCBA filling equipment.

McFarland firefighter and EMT Brian Molenaar was one of the people who wrote the grant application last summer. He has been with the department for about 15 years and said it’s one of a few grants he remembers the department receiving and it may be the largest ever.
