Wis. fire departments get local grants for equipment

Each year, Grant County Emergency Management provides assistance to any interested area fire departments and EMS agencies

The Telegraph Herald

LANCASTER, Wis. — Three Grant County fire and rescue departments are receiving grant awards. Grant County Emergency Management Director Steve Braun made the announcement last week.

The grant awards are:

  • Blue River Fire Department, $63,555, for the purchase of firefighting equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus, a thermal-imaging camera, hose, nozzles, an automated external defibrillator and other firefighting tools.
  • Platteville Fire Department, $42,418, for monitor nozzles, a thermal-imaging camera, hose, valve fittings and basic firefighting tools.
  • Patch Grove Fire Department, $14,234, for hose, nozzles, pagers, tanker supplies and basic firefighting tools.

The awards were made through the federal 2010-11 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by the

Office of Grants and Training in the federal Department of Homeland Security.

The primary goal of the program is to provide financial assistance directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance local capabilities for firefighting and emergency response.

Each year, Grant County Emergency Management provides assistance to any interested area fire departments and EMS agencies with developing applications for the program.

Many Grant County applications remain under review, and additional awards will be announced in the coming weeks, according to Braun.
