CALEXICO, Calif. — A $1.69 million Community Development Block Grant that would have benefitted renovations to the city’s badly outgrown fire station as well as local small businesses was rejected because a 2010-2011 audit has not yet been turned in to the state.

City staff in the housing, economic development and fire departments worked on the grant application on and off for about a month.

"There was a lot of staff that participated in putting this together. We just need to make sure this doesn’t happen again," City Manager Oscar Rodriquez said.
