2 Ore. firefighters hired thanks to federal grant

The $453,000 grant will cover the salaries and benefits for the firefighters for two years

BORING, Ore. — Boring Fire District has received a $453,000 federal grant to boost firefighting and medical-emergency readiness.

The grant, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will allow Boring Fire to hire two additional firefighters, covering salaries and benefits for two years. Boring Fire expects to hire the new employees in late February. The new firefighter/paramedics will attend a rigorous nine-week training academy and will begin responding to calls in late April, said Fire Chief Brian Stewart.

The grant was awarded through the federal SAFER — Staffing for Adequate Emergency Response — program.
