TRENTON, N.C. — The Jones County Community Foundation awarded Maysville Fire and EMS a $1,000 grant to help the department with their fire training efforts.

Fire Chief Michael Jordan said the department will be using the money towards purchasing a live burn trailer. The trailer will be used to help recruits get hands-on training with real fire situations. Chief Jordan said in the past training with fire was a rare occurrence.

"Another way we do it now is actually doing live burns. We burned a house last week that was donated to us to do live burns in. But they don't come very often. I think the one before that was three years ago," Chief Jordan said.
