Ga. EMS gets community health grant for new cardiac monitors

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Community Health has awarded $390,000 in grants to bolster health care service in rural communities.

The grants are being distributed by the department's Office of Rural Health, and officials said Wednesday that the agency has distributed more than $2.5 million in rural health care grants since 2007.

Crisp Regional Hospital and Wilcox County EMS will use $90,000 to buy new cardiac monitors and defibrillators.

The Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla is using $100,000 to bolster information technology services for its rural partners.

The East Georgia Healthcare Center in Swainsboro is using $100,000 to launch new case management and outreach services for patients in an 18-county service area.

The Southwest Georgia Health Network will use $100,000 to launch a childhood obesity prevention program in a five-county area.
