GALION, Ohio — Fire departments in Galion and Crestline are preparing to purchase three new rescue tools through a federal grant.

The Galion Fire Department applied for and received the $110,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to purchase two hydraulic extraction devices for their own department as well as one for the Crestline Fire Department. The departments regularly work together as mutual aid partners.

The devices are used to pry apart the wreckage of crashed vehicles to free people trapped inside.
