GENOA, Ill. — A grant check for $6,500 was awarded to the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department by the DeKalb County Community Foundation this last week.

The grant was part of a Community Needs Grant and will be used to update essential equipment needed for putting the new fire engine into service. Some of the equipment upgrades include a new thermal imager, extrication hoses, ventilation saw, pry bar, axes, and a 2.5-inch 1000 GPM nozzle.

"We're very grateful to the DeKalb County Community Foundation," Ryan Stoffregen, assistant fire chief, said in a news release. "Our overall funding goal of $14,500 was reduced significantly with this grant, and we are that much closer to getting the new engine fully equipped and serving our community."
