ASHBY, Mass. — The Ashby Fire Department is receiving a $4,000 grant to train 40 of the town's firefighters and EMTs in safe driving techniques, the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association announced Friday.

The association awarded the Loss Control Grant which is available to members.

The grants fund equipment purchases and implement training programs that address safety and loss prevention issues, according to the association.

"The proactive efforts help avoid accidents and potentially costly claims to protect the municipality, its employees and its citizens," the association said.

The association is a non-profit insurance arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association.
