2010 SAFER grant period open
By FireRescue1
WASHINGTON — SAFER grant applications are now being accepted by FEMA.
The application period opened Tuesday at 8 a.m. and will end Friday, September 17 at 5 p.m. ET.
The SAFER grants program was established to assist local fire departments with staffing by providing funding for hiring new firefighters, rehiring laid-off firefighters, and recruitment and retention programs for volunteer firefighters.
Congress has appropriated $420 million to fund this cycle.
Applications can be submitted through the official website, which also provides an application tutorial.
